The back office (word by word “behind the office”, as the section of a shop behind the one open to the public) is the part of a company (or an organisation) that includes all its core activities, such as the production or the management. The back office consists of all the activities to manage both the organisation (General Affairs, Human Resources) and the administrative procedures. Practically, the back office is all a client cannot see, but that enables the company to create the products or the services in his interest.
The back office is counterposed to the front office and it can also be called “production system”.
